DISCOVER YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL FOOD MARKET IN SEVILLE

THE BEST PLACES TO B

Cuisine is at the heart of every culture, bringing people together all around the world. Every culture has its own cuisine, and it almost always starts with fresh, local ingredients. In Spain, many people still favor their local food markets over the convenience of modern supermarkets. They know that the food available in local markets is more closely connected to the land around them, that produce is grown in better conditions, and is typically much fresher and tastier. Food markets are also great places to have a drink and sample local cuisine, as many of them serve mouth-watering tapas. Check out this list to discover your favorite local food market in Seville, where the locals themselves love to shop and eat!

Mercado de Triana

Easily the most famous food market in Seville, the Mercado de Triana sits on the west bank of the Guadalquivir River, just past the awe-inspiring Triana bridge. Today it’s a market but in 1481 the building was known as the Castillo de San Jorge and used as a headquarters during the Spanish Inquisition. Upon entering, you will be overwhelmed by the sights, smells, and sounds of this typical Spanish food market. Kiosks selling fresh goods such as eggs, meats, and cheeses, many of which highlight the best of Andalusian cuisine. At the same time this market is the most touristy so if you’re looking for something genuinely authentic this might not be the market for you. There is a fantastic paella to be had in this market at Arrocería criaito Triana and if it’s paella you’re after then why not try our paella cooking class while you’re in Seville?

Mercado de Feria

Even older than the Mercado de Triana is the Mercado de Feria, the oldest food market in Seville. This market is on Calle Feria, a street in Seville known for its personality and character. Mercado de Feria has all the fresh and local foods you’d expect and sits next to a beautiful, 13th-century church. On Thursdays, a flea market takes over Calle Feria right in front of the market, so it’s a double score if you love perusing markets! This market is the most off the beaten path of all the markets on this list and if you’re interested in exploring it we visit on our morning food tour.
