THE TOUR
Want to get under Bordeaux’s skin without the bus tour vibe? This morning walk through Chartrons hits all the good stuff: wine, stories, flaky pastries, and corners most tourists miss.
We kick things off down by the Garonne, where ships used to load up barrel after barrel of Bordeaux wine and sail it off to the world. You’ll walk the old docks, learn a bit about the city’s tangled history—including its colonial past—and get a feel for how this sleepy quartier used to run the whole show.
Then it’s time to eat. First stop: a bakery that’s been firing up bread in a 300-year-old wood oven. You’ll grab a coffee, something warm and buttery, and head back into the winding streets of Chartrons.
There’s a tiny wine museum most people breeze past. We don’t. You’ll head down into the old cellars for a private tasting with the in-house sommelier. Expect a few surprises and zero snobbery. Just good wine, local knowledge, and maybe a little Louis XV gossip.
Before you know it, we’re pulling up chairs in a bistro only the locals seem to know exists. It’s relaxed, seasonal, and exactly where you want to end up for lunch in Bordeaux.
