On this food & wine Tour, we slip from a vermouth-soaked bodega into a half-underground speakeasy.
THE TOUR
Ever ducked through a random clothing shop and ended up in a half-underground wine cave run by a sailor who’s seen the whole world? No? Well, tonight’s the night.
We start in a bodega that looks like it hasn’t changed in decades—dusty barrels, hand-painted tiles, and old men in the corner arguing about football like it’s life or death. Your first drink? Vermouth. The real deal—spiced, bittersweet, and dangerously drinkable. Locals use it to “open the stomach.” We’ll use it to open the mood.
Then comes the twist. We slip down a narrow Old Town street with more history than some countries—once the place where lovers kissed soldiers goodbye during the Spanish Civil War, not knowing if they’d ever meet again. Blink and you’ll miss the doorway: a clothing shop up front, but behind it, past a kitchen and down a few steps, a whole other world.
The space is part speakeasy, part art gallery, part sailor’s living room. The owner? A weathered storyteller who’s sailed to places you’ve only seen in dreams. He pours you 4 organic wines—no pesticides, no supermarket shelves, just grapes and time. You’ll learn, in plain language, why organic wine tastes like the land it comes from.
Between sips, you’ll eat. Not just “local” food—Barcelona-local, zero-kilometer stuff from people who know their craft. Cheeses that bite back. Pan con tomate the right way (your cutting board will never be the same). Little salty things that make wine sing. And to close? Dark chocolate with a drizzle of local olive oil, a pinch of salt, and a final wine pairing that shouldn’t work, but does. Perfectly.
